November 26, 2022 By Cathy Baker Leave a Comment

Memorial Day is one of the very few moments that we get to commemorate all the American men and women who defended our country ever since the beginning of our liberty. They are the ones who kept us sleeping safe and sound at night with the new hope of having a bright morning on the very next day.

The unsung heroes of America are celebrated during this day. And what better way to celebrate their heroism and patriotism than to create a cake that represents the great American flag? This Patriotic Cake is the best Memorial Day Food to share with your family and to remind your children what this day is truly about.

The Perfect Memorial Day Food To Help Celebrate The Unsung Heroes This Memorial Day

When we talk about Memorial Day, we remember the soldiers (whether or not on the battlefieldd) and the different wars. However, when we talk about Memorial Day food, cook outs usually come to mind, right?

This recipe is very easy to prepare and will be a sure hit with the kids.

Procedure

1. Bake the Cakes.

A. Mix Together the 3 Boxes of White Cake Mix

Just simply follow the instructions on the box and you should be good to go.

B. Separate the Mixture into 4 Bowls

One for the white, one for the blue food coloring and two for the red food coloring.

C. Add the White Chocolate Chips with the Blue Mix

They will serve as the stars of the flag when you slice the finished cake ensemble.

Tip: Don’t forget to leave a handful for the decorations later!

2. Prepare the Cake Layers

A. Trim the Tops, and Then Slice the White Cake and One Red Cake in Half

Once the cakes have cooled, cut the white cake and one of the red cakes in half, creating 2 thinner layers.

B. Cut a 4-Inch Round on Some of the Cake Layers

Cut out a 4-inch diameter circle in the middle of one of the white cake layers and in one of the thinner red cake layers. Do the same in the middle of the blue cake. Be extra careful not to ruin the shape of the cake.

C. Lay down All the Cake Layers

Make sure that you have all these layers prepared in order to proceed to the next step of the recipe.

Tip: Make sure to follow the colors exactly, to achieve the American flag look!

B.) Finishing off the Top of the Cake Arrangement

Frost inside the ring and add the smaller white 4-inch layer, then frost again. Finish it off with the red layer to cover the top.

Making this cake will not only make you patriotic but will also make you an artistic one at that! For sure, people will start asking how you did it, but a simple wink will surely suffice! 🙂

This will serve as a great educational visual element for the kids and a delicious treat to be as a memorial day food, served with love.

Memorial Day isn’t just about honoring veterans, its honoring those who lost their lives. Veterans had the fortune of coming home. For us, that’s a reminder of when we come home we still have a responsibility to serve. It’s a continuation of service that honors our country and those who fell defending it.
