We often tell our kids not to eat too much candy or sweets…. but with this new healthy alternative way to make a delicious brownie that kids and adults will love”guilt-free”. Ingredients:
- 2 ripe bananas
- ¾ Cup brown sugar
- ½ Cup applesauce
- ⅓ Cup water
- 1 tsp white vinegar
- 1 1/4 Cup flour
- 1/4 Cup unsweetened cocoa
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 3/4 Cup chocolate chip
Instructions:
Step 1. Mash banana
Mash up two very ripe bananas in a medium bowl with a fork, Add cane sugar, applesauce, water, and white vinegar. You may also use your own homemade applesauce for this recipe if you wish to do so.
The type of banana you see in the supermarket is called a Cavendish banana. The preferred variety was originally the Gros Michel, which essentially became extinct by 1960, thanks to a fungus called Panama disease.
Step 2. Add the dry ingredients
Mix the flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking soda, salt in a large bowl.
Step 3. Add the choco chips
Add 1/2 of the quantity of the chocolate chips (semi-sweet) and stir.
Chocolate has traditionally been associated with magical, medicinal, and mythical properties. In fact, in Latin, cacao trees are called Theobroma Cacao, or “food of the gods.”
Step 4. Divide the batter
Divide the batter between the two pans. Sprinkle more chocolate chips on top until both pans are evenly covered.
Step 5. Bake
Bake the brownies in the preheated oven at 350 F/180 C for 40/45 minutes and check by poking it with a toothpick for doneness and serve.
The first printed Brownie Recipe: The 1896 edition of the ‘Fannie Farmer Boston Cooking-School Cook Book’ contains a recipe for “Brownies” – but they are molasses flavored, not chocolate.
