7 Basic Cooking Methods that Everyone Needs to Know

7 Cooking Methods And Recipes That You Will Surely Love!

One of the most important things to consider when one is working in their kitchen is the use of the correct cooking methods for your recipes. It may not give the taste of the ingredients that you’ll incorporate into your dishes, but doing each method correctly can provide you a quality home-cooked dish for your family!

You may not know all of them, but here’s a list of the most basic ones that should come in handy at all times. Plus, a recipe for each method as a bonus! Hope you’ll enjoy this post!

Method #1: SLOW ROAST

Slow-roasting makes the meat very tender and creates a more flavorsome dish because as it slow-roasts, the flavor penetrates more. You can slow roast chicken, pork, lamb, duck, and turkey. This gives the meat a lot of flavors and a wonderful silky texture. See Slow-Roasted Garlic Chicken  recipe and also Seven-Hour Lamb recipe.

Method #3: SEAR

Searing is a cooking method that requires high temperature until it forms a caramelized crust. It is a method used in baking, grilling, roasting, or sauteing, and a lot more. –Wikipedia

Tip on searing scallops:

For searing, you want “dry scallops,” which haven’t been treated; they’re harder to find and more expensive. You should be able to buy them from a reputable fishmonger, or from a market with a good seafood counter. They’re often labeled “day boat” or “diver” scallops. Buy them and use them the same day. chowhound

Information about steak:

How to cook the perfect steak:

1. Heat a frying pan over medium-high heat before adding the steak (this seals the surface, trapping in juices).
2. Rather than oiling the pan, brush the steak with oil to prevent it sticking.
3. Cook a 2cm-thick piece of steak for 2-3 minutes each side for rare, 4 minutes each side for medium, and 5-6 minutes each side for well-done. from: taste.com

Method #4: BLANCH

Why Blanch?

  • Blanching seals in the color, flavor and nutrients of the veggies.
  • Blanching is great for loosening the fibers and flesh of veggies. Shortens cooking time in a saute or stir-fry.
  • Green veggies turn bright green!
  • Blanching loosens the skins of veggies like tomatoes for easy peeling.
  • Blanching releases a bit of water from the veggies, so more flavor in the finished product.
  • If sauteing in oil later, the blanched veggies will require less cook time and absorb less oil.
  • Healthier end result! HealthyHappyLife.com
