Easy DIY 4th of July Inspired Frozenlicious Dessert
Make it a Cool and Sweet Patriotic Day for The Whole Family this 4th of July with this Red, Blue and White Ice Cream Sandwich
Celebrating Independence Day this 4th of July is a holiday that is definitely historical for the family. My husband and I are already looking forward to celebrating it with the children. We are having a 4th of July mini-party. He will be responsible for the historical stories and 4th of July decorations with our eldest daughter, Cheeky. While me and Nicky, the youngest, are in charge in the kitchen.
I have shared with you guys before how my grandpa served the army, and now, it’s Daddy’s turn to wear the story teller’s hat. And with this event happening on a summer, I find these ice cream stars sandwiches as the perfect 4th of July Dessert recipe to go with.
Ingredients
- Sugar Cookie Dough Recipe (I have a simple, chewy Sugar Cookie recipe here!)
- 1/2 cup of All Purpose Flour (extra)
- 1 bottle of Red Food Color
- 1 bottle of Blue Food Color
- Vanilla Ice Cream
- Colored Sprinkles (red, blue and white)
Materials
- 2 Mixing Bowls
- Rolling Pin
- 3 & 1/2 inched Star Cookie Cutter
- Wax Paper
- Spoon
Procedure
Step 1. Prepare the Cookie Dough
1a. Add the Food Coloring to the Liquid Mixture
Divide your liquid and dry materials into 2; one for the blue food color, and the other for the red. Mix all the wet ingredients separately into two bowls and add the food colors on each.
1b. Add the Dry Ingredients
Once the colors are all well combined, mix in the dry ingredients into each bowl as well.
1c. Pack and Refrigerate
Make sure the red and blue doughs are well compacted, formed into a disk and refrigerated for about 30 minutes.
Step 2. Cut out the Stars and Bake
After rolling the sugar cookie dough out to about 3/16 inch or that’s 4-5 mm thick, cut it out with the star cookie cutter. Then place it on the baking sheet and bake it according to the sugar cookie recipe you’re following.
Step 3. Shape out the Ice Cream Filling
While you’re baking the cookies, prepare your vanilla ice cream by scooping them inside the star cookie cutter. Place the star-formed ice cream back to the freezer immediately after forming.
Step 4. Assemble the Ice Cream Star Sandwiches
When the cookies are baked and cooled, you may start assembling these enticingly patriotic ice cream star sandwiches.
Step 5. Sprinkle and Refrigerate
Alternately sprinkle the red, blue and white candy sprinkles onto your sandwiches.
Step 6. Serve them Frozen-Cold
Bring out these star-studded ice cream sandwich desserts inspired by this 4th of July holiday and serve them to your guests once it’s time for dessert. We wouldn’t want to melt all the ice cream now, do we?
Tips:
- Make sure you refrigerate your plate for about an hour before you use them when forming the ice cream to have a perfectly cool surface to work on.
- Move fast when assembling the ice cream sandwiches so they won’t melt.
Here’s the video of this fantastic 4th of July dessert recipe from Crouton Crackerjacks for your viewing pleasure:
I just couldn’t find anything perfect that could be cooler, creamier and sweeter to match this 4th of July’s summer heat. So I tested this dessert recipe out over the weekends with a small cookie dough, and I discovered that the mixture of the sweet textures in my mouth was simply amazing!
Preferably, this is best served during indoor parties. And if you will simply change the colors, you can also use them in another themed party. Wouldn’t you agree?
