Make this Rose Water Recipe in its Purest Form – The Mother of Rose Petal Desserts and Dishes

This idea occurred to me while I was on our back porch, heading out for work and I saw how our precious garden has bloomed. Planting came as a hobby for a while for my husband and I last spring, and now, they are in bloom. This could be a fun summer activity for the kids, letting them plant some more flowering plants with us this summer, I thought, and I realized so suddenly, “Are those roses?”. What a pleasant surprise!

And so from planting, my thoughts shifted to cooking. I would like to see the look on my family’s faces when they get a taste of their first rose petal recipe. But again, first things are first. Learn how to make a pure rose water with this special rose water recipe before you can bake or make food out of roses.

Ingredients:

  • Rose Petals (fresh from the garden, not from a flower shop)
  • Clean, drinkable Water

Procedure:

1. Remove the Petals

After picking out your fresh roses straight from the garden, wash them to remove dirt. You then pick the petals out and place them in a pan.

2. Weigh down the Bowl

Make a hole in the middle of the petals and put a small bowl there. Place some clean ceramic pebbles or any kind of weight to keep it down when the water starts to simmer later.

3. Place inside the Collecting Bowl

Put your collecting bowl on top of the first bowl with weights.

4. Pour in the Water

Pour a generous amount of water around the sides of the pan (where the rose petals are). Put just enough water to cover the petals.

5. Bring to a Simmer

Heat the water and petals for about 15 minutes or just until you see bubbles forming. Another indication is if the petals start to wrinkle, like the one in the picture above.

6. Cover and Place Ice on Top

Turn off the heat and place over the cover of the pan in an inverted position. Place a handful of ice to aid in the condensation of all the rose petal goodness. Repeat this process by scooping out the melted ice and adding more ice, lasting for about 50 minutes.

7. Collect the Rose Water

Your rose water is now ready and can be collected.

8. Store and Refrigerate

Prepare two small glass jars to collect the rose water that you made. Keep it in a cool, dry place up until you will need them.

TIPS:

  1. Do not make this recipe out of roses bought from a flower shop as they may contain pesticides which are harmful to your body.
  2. The process of condensation is the best way to get the flavor out of those rose petals rather than boiling.
  3. Keep your rose flower concoction inside the refrigerator to keep them fresh and ready when you make your rose recipes at any time.
  4. When they are well-sealed and chilled, shelf time can last up to more than a year.
  5. Aside from the obvious aromatic property, this also has a revitalizing property that can be used to make facial and skin care products.
  6. Transparent containers that are made of glass are best to keep it fresh and chemical-free.

Don’t you just love the smell of roses? Its sweet aroma hits you with its romantic touch that is both fun and serious at the same time. Regardless of having a sense of adventure, still, there are folks out there who refuse to taste rose-made dishes or even taste rose water. They even list them down on their “do not eat” list this summer,! Well, to each his own, I guess. And boy, are they missing a lot.
